LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY

CONTOUR PROTECTION FOR ATSC 3.0 DEPLOYMENT

The Television Industry is in the process of transforming to ATSC 3.0. LPTV Stations need contour protection for the investment in equipment to make sense. We are not asking the government for funding, simply contour protection. With contour protection, the SBA will loan LPTV stations funds to build out the station in ATSC 3.0.

INDUSTRY PRIORITIES

1.    LPTVBA is requesting the FCC to open opportunities for one time station moves of 60 miles or within the DMA, channel changes (LPTV is the only broadcast service that cannot change channels without displacement), and a new window for application for construction permits.

2.    LPTVBA is working with our member vendors to develop new technology and platforms, ranging from spot insertion to EAS to ATSC 3.0 and beyond.

3.    LPTVBA is keeping an eye on the future of broadcasting, from the technical aspect of ATSC 3.0 to Iot to 5G and datacasting opportunities in ip protocol.
