I think I’m ready to tell 2011 to pound sand.  It was an interesting year full of highs and a few lows and although a large majority of it was overwhelmingly fun, I’m completely ready to see what 2012 has to offer.  Here’s wishing you each light, love, laughter and tons of good tunes in the New Year!  Plenty of ways to ring this one in, so plan ahead, be smart and most importantly have fun!  Here’s what’s happening all around town this evening.

I have a feeling things are going to be completely out of control over at The Asylum in Portland tonight as two of Maine’s biggest rock acts take the stage for one helluva party.  It’s a New Year’s Eve extravaganza with Paranoid Social Club, Sidecar Radio and hip-hop/funk/rock act Grant Street Orchestra.  Hosted by Nick and Leon of the Dirty White Hats, things will get cranking with a set from GSO followed by PSC and Sidecar Radio.  If you saw the promo video for this event, you know what tonight is going to evolve into.  The fun begins at 9 o’clock.

Remember prom and how much it sucked?  Well, here’s your chance to reclaim your dignity and have an actual stellar time at prom with Katy Gaga tonight at The Big EasyKevin Kennie, Dean Ford and friends return to the stage tonight to perform all your favorite pop princess hits from past and present.  Tonight’s Katy Gaga show is obviously prom themed and even includes prom king and queen.  So if you’re looking to get your Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Rihanna on all while sporting your best dance duds, get yourself over to The Big Easy around 9pm tonight.

Flask Lounge in Portland will be holding a New Year’s Eve Masquerade tonight.  The masquerade will feature music from Dark City who will be spinning every possible genre of music you can shake your can to.  Apparently there will also be snacks and a midnight champagne toast, so get your Party Pants over to Flask and shake it on out beginning at 8 o’clock.

A Love Boat themed party takes place tonight over at Bayside Bowl in Portland where The Awesome bring their plethora of 80s cover tunes to life.  Boasting a costume contest, champagne toast, t-shirt giveaways and some fresh new cover tunes for y’all, tonight will be so full of cheese that it’ll prove impossible to have a bad time.  So tease that hair, because we all know the higher the hair, the closer to heaven, bust out that spandex and get your tush over to Bayside where the party starts around 8pm.

The Hive in Kennebunk is ready to clear the chairs, pour some champagne and channel the spirit of Jamaica’s Bob Marley for an evening of reggae with The Pressure Points. It’s bound to be a great time with good people and stellar tunes so check it out starting at 8pm tonight.

If you need some rock and/or roll that’ll rattle your teeth and cause you to fist pump uncontrollably then I would suggest making your way to Geno’s in Portland tonigh.  A full line-up of some of Portland’s heaviest hitters takes the stage tonight.  You can catch Bora, Clubber Lang, The Outfits, and Dementia 5 all in one place and with a whole extra hour to rock, it’s sure to be a helluva time.  Things get wild over at Geno’s right around 9 o’clock tonight.

I will be ringing in 2012 at the same place I ushered in 2011—Empire Dine and Dance.  Tonight The Empire in Portland hosts all of my favorite people under one roof and within stumbling distance of The Nunz Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I will be reminding myself that it is indeed a marathon and not a sprint so that I can properly celebrate alongside This Way, the Kurt Baker Band and The Mallett Brothers Band.  A smorgasbord of some of Portland’s greatest talent will rock The Empire stage all night long with a whiskey toast at midnight. Whiskey, rock and roll, twang, foot stomping, hip shaking and all around good times await.  The party I’ve been looking forward to all month long begins at 9 o’clock tonight.
