Stop. Shandy time.
As the resident beer and booze aficionado, I’m always on the hunt for a drink that can take me to the places I want to go. And right now, the place I want to go is the country on a warm summer day. No cares or worries, just folk bands with bare feet, pig roasts and beverages with farm-fresh ingredients. Or at least you can convince me that they’re fresh from the farm (I’d never know the difference). Either way, I want something to wet my whistle in the perfect summer manner. Enter: The Traveler Beer Co., makers of one of the best shandy series I’ve ever laid my eyes on. Based out of Burlington, VT, the folks at Traveler have taken the classic shandy recipe and flipped it on it's head, creating an entirely new experience. Giddy up, buckaroos, ‘cause I’m taking you to the backroads for some ol’ fashioned summer fun, shandy style.
The CURIOUS TRAVELER Shandy
Legit guys, the Curious tastes like a delicious bag of fruit snacks, which can be mighty dangerous to adult-sized children like myself. I like the light, citrusy top notes, and the almost-creamy finish. The Curious Traveler Shandy has a certain level of innocence to it. This is the perfect disc golf tagalong. A nice, refreshing wheat ale that would pair very well with some fried seafood. Long story short, it’s a lemon-lime kick in the face and I don’t mind the beating.
The TIME TRAVELER Shandy
A truly different experience entirely. Crispier and almost fresher than the others, this is straight up right off the farm. The Time Traveler’s medley of strawberry and lemon peel really opens up upon reaching your taste buds, flashing images of picnic tables and tall grass and tireless, broken down rusty Chevy’s on the lawn. You’ll be wearing overalls and sundresses and painting Maw’s white picket fence in no time!
The TENACIOUS TRAVELER Shandy
Spicy and sweet, with a bark as strong as it’s bite, this is certainly the most robust of the collection. The edge of the ginger marries perfectly with the clover honey, creating a well-balanced ballet of intertwining flavor. There’s no grit or bitterness at the end, which make the Tenacious Shandy insanely drinkable. You’ll be in orbit, flying as high as these flavors can take you (which is pretty far up there, yo). Lay on top of your car, crack open a Tenacious and watch the stars, far from the city lights and noises. Sounds like the perfect end to the perfect day.
